Top Discussions: Facebook Groups

For the seventh week with Alien Apples, we will engage discussion in two Facebook Groups that are centered on two topics which shall help further my professional career: Script writing and digital animation.

Writing Prompts. As a site dedicated to one of my greatest passions --and aligned with my aspiration to become a script writer for a major studio--, joining this discussion shall allow me to learn skills and resources from the authors who frequent said page.

Offered as a place for authors who need prompting on what topics to choose, it offers daily ideas in a search to aid all those suffering from writer's block.

I was personally attracted to the description of the site, which encouraged visitors to be weird, curious and original -- three norms I, as a writer, live by.

Upon seeing the method employed by the creator of the page to publish their content, I was immediately taken back to my childhood, reminded of a tale by Elvira Woodruff, which featured the three elements featured in the post: a mysterious figure, a tower and, of course... a raven.

Virtual Animation, on the other hand, is a page centered on sharing the virtual creations which different artists publish, seeking insight and advice on their works. What attracted me to this group in particular is that it describes itself as being "content driven", an increasingly rare phenomenon in social media sites nowadays.

I was able to view a lot of the projects posted, and paid a compliment to the talented Vy LĂȘ for her work on Quillustration; it's truly wonderful! You can view it here!

Upon sending the request to follow these groups, the administrators didn't keep me waiting for long before accepting! Despite the fact that these sites were public, a series of questions were asked to each aspiring member, allowing the current ones to screen new applicants, ensuring that I would be able to contribute to the community -- with the additional goal of keeping out trolls.

Having explored these groups, I have discovered that the content, questions and advice shared and posted by other artists shall be of great help in my pursuit of designing new projects, be it literary or for design.

Final thoughts: Facebook Groups

Having explored the world of Facebook groups in search of more than mere entertainment, I have discovered a world of undiscovered resources, and a wonderful gateway to meeting other artists, exchanging ideas, and even resolving and asking doubts or concerns we might have!

This shall help develop my career considerably, as having access to this vast quantity of knowledge and curiosity is bound to boost my own skills, by both teaching and learning with other individuals who share my passions and interests.
